Whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on

Kitty Henderson (right) and her two Quest science classes at Clements Middle School jump in unison to create a small “earthquake” to be read by their seismograph. Henderson received the seismograph in January after applying to Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) for use of the machine. IRIS loaned the machine to the class for one year. According to Henderson, the seismograph has picked up five real earthquakes since arriving in her classroom, with the most recent one coming in on Tuesday night. For more on the seismograph and what Henderson’s students are learning from it, see page 11A. –Photo by Colin Owens
